Editing is an Artform...

What can I write about? What do I convey through electronic words? I have been looking at film footage to the point of memorization. It's uncanny. And nothing that I'm doing is getting the results I've anticipated. Film editing is exciting and frustrating and tedious and "get up from the computer and take a walk" emotions. There are technical challenges.

I usually sit down to a task and because it has already played out in my mind, I believe it will be done within the 60 minute time period I've alloted. Not with film editing. The process is steady, methodical, silent, and blurry. I don't mind tedious. I mind not having the tools to do the job - effective tools.

I'm learning about software (iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Premier) and hardware (firewire portable hard drives vs. usb2 portable hard drives). I'm a plug-in and just get it done kind of girl. Well, not so fast; and, my head hurts sometimes.

During this process I've again bonded with the men and women and children who spoke with us on and off camera. Their stories are their own and we want to honor and not ridicule them. There is much I want to share with those of you who visit this site.

We're going to be on the road again and in the meantime I think I'll just begin to upload some to the places we've come to know and love through the people we met along the way.

I've created a 5 minute intro piece but there's so much more. So, I am continuing to work with the equipment and software at our disposal and take one day at a time. It keeps me sane and I don't experience a significant level of frustration with my high learning curve. When it's all said and done, I'm truly enjoying myself as I learnt the art of editing.
